The synchronized light show is coming back to Mozart's Coffee Roasters this season. The 16th annual Festival of Lights runs November 21, 2026 through January 3, 2027 at 3825 Lake Austin Blvd. Mozart's says the timed display returns to the Main Building, the Archway and six more synchronized areas. For anyone who grew up stopping by on a December evening, that sounds like a return to the old days. It mostly isn't. The lights are back, but they now come with a timed, paid event wrapped around them. And the water next door has become a separate ticketed attraction with its own season.
The way to see this clearly is to follow the event through its last four winters.
Four winters on one lakefront lot
The light show changed more between 2023 and 2026 than in the dozen years before that. Here's what each season looked like, according to the event's own listings and local coverage:
- 2023. The KMFA listing for the 2023 show offered "General standing room admission (free)," with reserved tables and timed Marketplace reservations sold separately. That season ran November 6, 2023 to January 6, 2024.
- 2024. The event got the name "Festival of Lights," went to paid general admission, and dropped the light show itself. Tickets were $5 per person plus taxes and fees. Children under 11 with an adult got in free. Each ticket covered a 2.5-hour block, either 5 to 7:30 p.m. or 7:30 to 10 p.m.
- 2025. General admission was $3, and everyone 18 months and older needed a ticket, according to Austin With Kids and CBS Austin. KMFA's 2025 listing said tickets started at $5, so the two sources may be counting different ticket types. The stage show leaned on two large LED screens. Austin With Kids reported that the old building-side show set to holiday music was gone.
- 2026. The synchronized lights return, and general admission costs more than twice what local guides reported for 2025.
The 2024 change is the one that explains everything after it. The festival's ticketing FAQ that year answered whether the event was different from previous years:
"Yes this year we no longer have the typical timed light displays but rather our focus is on live entertainment - both community based and local artists."
That line comes from the 2024 Festival of Lights ticket page. The same FAQ said open-seating general admission was replacing the old reserved tables so that "more Austinites can enjoy the festival all over the property for 2 ½ hours." So the ticket, the capacity limit and the time blocks all arrived in the year the lights left. The lights have now come back. None of those other features went away.
What the ticket covers in 2026
The 2026 page lists two general admission prices. Early bird tickets cost $7 and are on sale October 6 through November 20, 2026. Regular general admission is $8 starting November 21. Children under 18 months get in free. Shows start at 6 p.m. and run nightly until 9 or 10 p.m. Mozart's points visitors to its calendar for exact showtimes.
The age cutoff changes the math for families more than the base price does. Take two adults with kids aged 6 and 9, using each year's posted general admission price:
| Season | General admission | Kids who got in free | Cost for two adults, kids 6 and 9 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | Free standing room | Everyone | $0 |
| 2024 | $5 plus taxes and fees | Under 11 with an adult | $10 plus fees |
| 2025 | $3, as reported locally | Under 18 months | $12 |
| 2026, early bird | $7 | Under 18 months | $28 |
| 2026, from Nov 21 | $8 | Under 18 months | $32 |
That's still cheap for a holiday evening in Austin. But Mozart's describes the 2026 General Admission area as one of the synchronized zones and calls it "a Mozart's first." In 2025, general admission got you the market area and the lower deck, and Austin With Kids noted you probably wouldn't be able to see the stage. This year the cheapest ticket puts you inside part of the light show.
Paid tiers sit above general admission. Reserved tables come with stage and light-show views plus service attendants. Premium Private Decks hold up to 16 guests and include bottomless hot cocoa and a dedicated server. The rest of the grounds take a list to cover:
- A Broadway-style holiday revue built around 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, hosted by McKenna Michaels
- An interactive LED dance floor for kids and a Snow Globe Igloo photo spot
- Santa's Tavern, a 21-and-up area serving spiked hot cocoa
- The Bavarian Bakeshop, selling giant pretzels, Mozart's brownies and cookies, and new Hill Country kolaches
- A 210-square-foot ATX LED photo wall, plus Santa and Mrs. Claus on select nights
- A Light Up Big Red Truck collecting toys for the Toys for Kids drive, for families in need
The lake now has its own season
The other big change is on the water. Lake Austin Lights, a boat cruise that started in 2024, runs November 20, 2026 through January 3, 2027. That's one night ahead of Mozart's. Check-in is at Hula Hut. The Lake Austin Lights cruise lasts 45 minutes and passes through two 80-foot floating Tunnels of Lights and past floating 3D LED displays. Twenty lit-up boats move in a synchronized routine on the lake.
Shared seats cost $34.95 for ages 14 and up and $19.95 for ages 4 to 13. Children 3 and under ride free but still need a reserved spot. Private boats start at $400 for up to 14 guests. All prices are before taxes and fees. Guests check in on Hula Hut's lower-deck waterside patio, not inside the restaurant, and should arrive at least 20 minutes early. Hula Hut also rents its covered palapa for holiday parties at $1,000 for two hours, for groups of up to 80.
Mozart's runs its own Holiday Donut Boat Cruise too. It's a 45-minute ride with a captain and bottomless hot cocoa, made for seeing the Lake Austin Lights displays from the water. Its festival page links separately to the Lake Austin Lights cruises, along with private holiday boat packages for 30 or 40 people. When the light show paused in 2024, the boats were already part of the plan. That year's FAQ offered general admission ticket holders $5 off a boat ride.
Taken together, the stretch of Lake Austin Blvd between Mozart's and Hula Hut now hosts two overlapping ticketed seasons. One is on land and one is on the water, and they run nearly the same six weeks.
Getting there from Tarrytown
Two ticketed events in the same spot for six weeks matter most if you drive Lake Austin Blvd. Mozart's 2024 FAQ said free parking was available across the boulevard. In 2025, Austin With Kids pointed visitors to the overflow lot for Oyster Landing Marina across the street, where a pedestrian signal helps people cross. Lake Austin Lights also lists free parking.
The traffic is a long-standing issue. Back in December 2019, The Daily Texan described cars lined up on Lake Austin Blvd, street parking filled, and drivers circling Oyster Landing. Mozart's suggested rideshare, or the bus for people who lived near a stop. That report is seven years old and came from the free-admission era. Neither event has posted a 2026 traffic or shuttle plan, so it's safest to expect evening backups near the marina from late November into early January. Capacity limits may spread the crowds out compared with 2019, but there's no data yet to show it.
If you plan to buy general admission, the early bird price stays open through November 20, 2026. That gives you about three weeks from the day this post goes up to get the $7 rate before it moves to $8. Mozart's also takes questions by phone at (737) 271-0335.
